Amazing Things to Do in Aizawl in 2026

Mizoram may be in the eastern-most corner of India, it is no longer a “hidden” gem. The capital city, Aizawl, has been fast gaining due recognition for its natural beauty, cleanliness, and most of all for the kind and empathetic disposition of the people making it scale higher on every Indian’s travel bucket-list.

Despite being a state capital, Aizawl remains wonderfully untouched by extreme commercialisation. It is quiet, peaceful, and yet offers the perfect blend of scenic beauty, unique culture and lip-smacking food and coffee culture.

If you enjoy slow travel, immersing in cultural heritage and raw adventure, here are the most amazing things to do in Aizawl in 2026.

Quick Navigation

Exploring Aizawl City

One of my fondest memories from Aizawl will always be riding across its narrow, steep lanes. Whiffs of freshly baked biscuits lingered in the crisp air as local women sat lazily by the road selling unique herbs, while groups of young boys and girls gathered outside restaurants sharing cups of tea and sandwiches. I was zooming through one of the most congested cities I’ve visited, yet there wasn’t a single car or bike horn to be heard.

When people talk about the “Silent City,” they highlight how clean it is, how deeply the locals respect their community, and their profound sense of civic pride. They talk about the unparalleled safety for women and how women seem to effortlessly run the world here. They are not wrong. Aizawl is a part of India, yet it feels worlds apart. You get a true taste of the city not just by checking off tourist spots, but by simply observing daily life.

However, if you visiting the city for the first time, here is a curated list of the most amazing things to do in Aizawl city:

Aizawl city after a rainy day

Solomon’s Temple

Solomon’s Temple is a striking, white marble, four-towered edifice modelled after the original temple in Jerusalem. Located on the western edge of the city, it easily tops the list of the best things to do in Aizawl. It is an incredibly peaceful place of worship and keeps the doors open to both devotees and tourists even on Sundays.

Although we missed visiting the temple this time around, local tour operators frequently combine it with other nearby attractions for a seamless half-day tour.

Aizawl Skywalk

If you’re looking for the best sunset viewpoint in Aizawl, drive up to the Aizawl Skywalk. Part of the Aizawl Peak Restaurant, this spot offers a breathtaking, panoramic view of the valley. It is absolutely stunning during the golden hour, as the city gets washed in layers of orange light and slowly comes alive with twinkling lights in the twilight hour.

We also visited a nearby area (not Skywalk but nearby) for sunrise. Watching the early morning fog float between the crevices of the hills as the sun climbed over the horizon, casting its first light directly onto the city, was a mystical experience.

The Instagram famous point Hángi Lunglên Tlâng is also part of the property. Although stunning and perfect for adrenaline-seeking individuals, it is highly dangerous. There are no barricades, and a single slip from the rocky platform could be fatal, so please exercise extreme caution.

💰Entry for Aizawl Peak Restaurant: ₹40

💰 Entry for Skywalk: ₹100

Thrift Shopping at Bar Bazaar

Aizawl boasts arguably one of the largest thrift markets in India. Every Saturday, Bara Bazaar transforms into a sprawling treasure trove of clothes and accessories, buzzing from morning until evening. The Mizo people have an incredible, innate sense of style, and this thrift market affords visitors the perfect chance to dig for hidden gems and upgrade their wardrobes.

Besides the thrift market, stores like VakiriA and Corz Secondhand are also popular among the locals.

Cafe Hopping

Adding cafe hopping to your list of things to do in Aizawl is an absolute must. The city has a vibrant cafe culture perfect for watching the sunset or even spending a day working remotely. The coffee is high-quality and not overpriced, and most places serve fantastic food to match. Here are our top recommendations for a great brew:

Zokhua Falkawn Living Museum

Falkawn Village is one of the best ways to immerse yourself in Mizo culture. About 18 km south of Aizawl city centre, this cultural hub showcases traditional Mizo houses, their way of life and communal bond.

It is open only on Saturday and the live museum show takes place between 11-11:30 AM and then 1:30-2 PM. The performance usually begins with a theatrical conflict between a deviant man and a group of fighters, which is then resolved by the chief or the king of the village. Beyond the drama, you’ll also get a chance to see local Mizo dances, traditional weaving techniques in action, local handicrafts, and indigenous cooking methods.

💰Entry: ₹100 per person

KV Paradise

KV Paradise is to Aizawl what Taj Mahal is to Agra – a symbol of love. It is situated in Durtlang Hills, 7 km north of Aizawl. It is another fantastic spot to watch the sun set over Aizawl.

Because of its elevation, the Durtlang Hills offer sweeping, panoramic vistas of the region, making it a favourite for both photographers and nature lovers seeking short hikes in the area.

The best time to visit KV Paradise is during sunrise and sunset.

Reiek

Imagine waking up at 2:00 AM, hopping into a car for a two-hour drive through the deeply sleepy lanes of Aizawl, and navigating a rubble-paved path just to scale another hill. You hike through the dark, waiting for the mist to roll over the valleys, until the sun hurriedly climbs up the horizon, lighting up the entire scenery to reveal exactly where you’ve made it. This perfectly summarises the magical sunrise chase at Reiek.

A breathtaking ridge located about 29 km from the city, Reiek promises an unforgettable sunrise point to anyone who dares to seek it. What used to be a long, arduous hike is now well-connected by local transport. Small yet mighty Maruti Altos and 800s can drop you right near the base of the highest ridge, leaving you with barely a 5-minute climb to the ridge.

💰 ₹300 per ride

Sunrise breakfast comes with a view at Reiek, Mizoram.

For the ultimate raw and slow-travel experience, a few adventurers prefer to camp overnight at the ridge to catch an uninterrupted, immersive sunset and sunrise. However, when we visited, we didn’t spot any public restrooms or proper camping setups. If you plan to pitch a tent, it is highly advisable to reach the top by 3:00 PM with all your supplies including food, water, cooking equipment, and a warm sleeping bag.

  • Tip: On your way down, don’t forget to take a pit stop at the Reiek Heritage Village. It is a beautifully maintained living museum featuring some of the most charming, traditional Mizo houses.

Hmuifang Tlang

If you are seeking a hidden gem equipped with sweeping vistas, nature trails, and beautiful grassy picnic spots, Hmuifang Tlang must be on your list of things to do in Aizawl. Located about 50 km from the city, this magnificent hill station remains largely untouched by commercial tourism.

It is a fantastic place to lay out a blanket, read a book, and just soak in the slow pace of Mizo life. The best time to visit the cliffs of Hmuifang is during the early morning hours to watch the fog lift, or in the late afternoon to catch a deeply romantic sunset over the endless layers of hills.

However, we didn’t get a chance to visit on our trip to Mizoram this time but it was highly recommended. It is a great alternate to Thenzawl and also has a Hmuifang Tourist Resort for a more tranquil getaway.

Getaway to Thenzawl

Thenzawl is the most common and one of the most rewarding 2-day getaway from the city. Offering an array of highlights, from sweeping panoramic viewpoints to a deep dive into the Mizo handloom and textile culture, a trip to Thenzawl easily earns its spot on any definitive list of things to do in Aizawl.

On our trip, we hired a private car with a driver to take us around all the key points. We booked this tour with a local operator Joshua (+91 92335 57585), who arranged a comfortable overnight stay at the beautiful Vantawng Village Resort. Although food and entry tickets were separate. It was an incredibly convenient way to explore Thenzawl at our own pace without getting exhausted. Plus, having a private car meant that on our way back to the city, we could easily stop by Falkawn Village for their live museum experience.

  • 💰Total Tour Cost: ₹16,000 (includes transport and accommodation)

While you are in Thenzawl, here are two absolute must-visit natural wonders you cannot miss:

Dil Pui Lake

Dil Pui may not be a hidden gem but it perfectly encapsulates the quiet beauty of Mizoram. Tucked within a wide, flat valley, the lake is surrounded by thick, lush forest and a small horse ranch.

It is incredibly serene, making it the perfect spot to go for a walk, kayaking or even taking a quick dip (obviously, at your own risk).

We visited the lake in April and we were the only tourists besides another couple returning from a leisurely walk around the lake. Since it is not frequented by a lot of tourists, the lake offers an unfiltered, meditative experience.

💰Entry: ₹40 per person

Vantawng Falls

The majestic Vantawng Falls cascades down an impressive 230 meters. Situated at a few minutes’ drive from Thenzawl, the waterfall plunges down the steep gorges of the Vanva River. It is also the highest uninterrupted waterfall in Mizoram and a spectacular sight to behold.

However, we visited during the low season and waterfall was more like a stream of water trickling down from the top. While the waterfall was unimpressive, we managed to get a boat ride to the top of the falls. It took us 15 minutes on either side slowly sailing through lush green forests.

The best time to visit Vantawng Falls is right after the monsoon retreats, between October-December.

Magical Champhai

If you have a few extra days, Champhai is a must-visit for a holistic Mizoram trip. It is often referred to as the ‘Rice bowl of Mizoram’ but this district sits right on the Indo-Mynmar border. With its terraced rice fields, fruit orchards, and cooler climate, Champhai is a destination in its own right.

Cosmos Festival

This needs to be at the absolute top of your list of things to do in Aizawl. The Mizoram Tourism Department has celebrated the blooming of the cosmos flowers with a spectacular, 3 to 4-day festival for the last 2-3 years.

The festival marks the start of the peak tourist season and the hills and valleys pop up with vibrant shades of pink, white and purple. The finale of the festival is particularly intoxicating as the air is filled with pure joy, the Mizo rice wine free-flowing, and an abundance of live music and tribal dances.

Rih Dil Lake

It is a fascinating geographical irony that the most culturally significant and largest lake for the Mizo people, Rih Dil, is actually located just across the border in Myanmar. Rih Dil is situated about 22 km from Champhai. This stunning, heart-shaped lake is believed to be the passage for souls transitioning to the afterlife. The lake is absolutely stunning and one of the best places to visit in Mizoram.

Visitng Myanmar is usually easy when there isn’t any civil unrest. Typically, all you need is your Aadhar Card cross the otherwise friendly border. A friend once told me how they would walk across just to eat some Burmese prawns and sip some Myanmar beer. It is a surreal, multi-country experience you won’t find anywhere else in India.

Vangchhia

Vangchhia is an absolute hidden gem. It’s nothing short of a wonderland for history buffs and mystery lovers. This archeological site is home to “The Great Gateway.” You will find hundreds of ancient, megalithic menhirs (standing stones) jutting out of the earth, intricately carved with figures of warriors, weapons, and animals.

It is now a protected site by the Archeological Survey of India. However, Vangchhia offers an almost Indiana Jones’s glimpse into a lost civilisation.

This concludes all the best things to in Aizawl, Mizoram. The state may seem deceptively small and conquerable for a traveller but invites you to spend days exploring its hidden gems. It is certainly the kind of destination that continues to welcome you back, each time for something different.
